What you’ll need
Ad tracking is available on any Kommo plan: Base, Advanced, Pro, Enterprise, or the 14-day trial.
Access to the conversation and its linked lead in Kommo, with ad tracking already connected. If you still need to connect an account or grant permissions, use Set up Meta ad tracking.
Keep in mind
Previews and saved fields depend on the channel, connection method, permissions, and information Meta provides. An unavailable preview does not necessarily mean the lead’s tracking fields are empty.
Use the conversation to understand what the client saw, the lead’s fields to find saved campaign information, and the activity history to check when those values changed.
See the ad before replying
Open the conversation in Chat inbox and review the available ad preview or link. For example, if the client asks, “Does this offer include delivery?”, check the advertised offer before replying.
A preview may include a title, image, or link to the ad post. What appears differs by channel:
Channel | What to expect |
|---|---|
The preview depends on what Meta sends. If the ad has several text variations, the text in Kommo may differ from the version the client saw. | |
Ad text is not shown. A post link can be available through a Facebook connection, or through Meta after ad access is granted. The legacy Instagram Login connection does not provide a post link. | |
Facebook Messenger | The available preview or link depends on Meta. Ad text is not shown. |

If a preview is incomplete, use the saved ad ID to find the ad in Meta Ads Manager. For channel-specific checks, see Preview or link problems.
View the saved ad details
Open the lead linked to the conversation.
Go to Statistics → Tracking data.
Click Show to see the saved fields and values.
The automatic fields use the Meta Ads prefix:
Field | What it identifies | When it can be saved |
|---|---|---|
Meta Ads ad ID | The ad’s numeric ID | No ad-account access is required. |
Meta Ads source | The source type, such as an ad or post | No ad-account access is required. |
Meta Ads ref | An optional reference value | Saved if Ref is set in the ad. |
Meta Ads campaign ID | The campaign’s numeric ID | Requires a supported connection and ad-account access. |
Meta Ads ad set ID | The ad set’s numeric ID | Requires a supported connection and ad-account access. |
Meta Ads creative ID | The creative’s numeric ID | Requires a supported connection and ad-account access. |
An ad set is a group of ads with shared audience and schedule settings. A creative is the ad’s content, such as its image, video, or text. IDs are numbers, not names.
If you added parameters to the ad, their values appear in their matching fields. For example, utm_campaign=spring_sale saves spring_sale in utm_campaign.
To add recognizable labels or automatically save a campaign name, see Track Meta ads with UTMs. For channel-specific access requirements, see Set up Meta ad tracking.
Check when a value was added or changed
Use the activity history when a lead’s current values do not explain which ad a client responded to earlier.
Open the conversation or its linked lead.
Find the Field changed entry for the tracking update near the relevant incoming message.
Click Expand if the entry is collapsed.
Review the fields and values in the entry, and its time, to see what Kommo saved then.
For Messenger, a tracking update may appear before a new message. See When an ad click saves details.
Find leads from the same campaign
Filter by a saved label to bring campaign leads together.
Go to Pipelines → All leads.
Click Search and filter.
Scroll to Statistics.
Select a tracking field, such as utm_campaign.
Enter the saved value you want to find, such as spring_sale.
Click Apply.
The results show leads with that value. You can use an offer or ad-version field instead, then narrow the results by pipeline stage or responsible user.
For example, review your spring campaign leads to see which need a follow-up, which are discussing an order, and which became successful sales. This helps you connect campaign leads with sales outcomes—often called ad attribution.
For more filter options, see Filter and search leads, contacts and companies.
Use ad details in Salesbot replies
You can configure Salesbot to check Meta Ads ad ID or a UTM value and choose a reply or next action.
For example, a lead from a delivery promotion can receive delivery information, while a lead from a product ad can receive a product link. The incoming ad details are available for the bot’s first reply.
This requires the relevant conditions and actions to be configured; Salesbot availability depends on your plan. See Salesbot overview.
What changes when a client responds to another ad
Kommo updates the lead linked to the conversation. Some fields are replaced, while others can keep information from an earlier ad.
Field or parameter | What happens with the new ad |
|---|---|
Ad ID and source | The new ad’s values replace the previous values. |
Campaign, ad set, and creative IDs | Kommo saves the new values when provided. If the ad ID changes and these details are missing, Kommo clears their previous values. |
Ref | Kommo saves the new Ref if provided. Otherwise, the previous value stays. |
UTM, custom, and dynamic parameters | Kommo updates only fields included in the new ad’s parameters. Other fields keep their previous values. |
For example, if the new ad includes utm_campaign but not utm_content, Kommo updates the campaign value and keeps the previous content value. The lead can therefore contain values from more than one ad.
Editing an ad in Meta does not automatically rewrite values already saved in Kommo. Use the activity history to check which interaction supplied a value.
When an ad click saves details
WhatsApp and Instagram: The client must click the ad and send a message. A click alone does not create a chat or lead, or update an existing lead’s ad details.
Facebook Messenger: If the client already has a conversation and a linked lead, an ad click can save details without another message. If there is no linked lead, Kommo keeps the details for up to 7 days. If the client sends their first message within that time, Kommo creates a lead and saves the details in it.
A WhatsApp or Instagram message that did not come from an ad supplies no new ad details. Values from an earlier ad may still remain in the lead.
Messenger links are different from ads. If a client uses an m.me link—a link that opens a Messenger chat—with a ref parameter, Kommo saves SHORTLINK in Meta Ads source and the reference value in Meta Ads ref. The ad ID is empty because no ad is involved.
If the saved details still look incorrect, use Troubleshoot Meta ad tracking.
