Third-party integrations won’t work for UTM tracking. > - Access to the ad account running your ads in Meta’s Ads Manager. > - Your connected WhatsApp number needs access to the ad account. Your WhatsApp Business and ad accounts must share the same Meta business portfolio. > - Permission for Kommo to access advertising data. Grant this permission when connecting the integration. > > Keep in mind: > > - Advanced analytics, like linking UTM data to CRM conversions, aren’t supported yet. > - Some ad messages can’t be displayed in Kommo due to Meta API restrictions. You’ll still see them in the WhatsApp Business app or Meta Business Suite. Kommo helps you see which Click-to-WhatsApp ads bring in leads. When a client opens WhatsApp through an ad and sends you a message, Kommo saves the ad’s UTM parameters in the lead card. This article explains what UTM parameters are, where to add them, and how they help you track your ads. ## Use cases - **Identify top-performing ads** — see which Click-to-WhatsApp campaigns bring in the most leads. - **Compare channels and audiences** — understand whether Facebook, Instagram, or another source delivers better results. - **Optimize ad spend** — spot low-performing campaigns early and shift your budget to ads that convert. - **Measure campaign impact** — track how lead volume changes after launching or updating ad creatives. - **Improve targeting and messaging** — analyze which campaigns attract the right leads so you can refine your creative and audience strategy. ## How UTM parameters work in Kommo UTM parameters are short labels that help you identify where a lead came from. For example, they can show the platform, campaign, or ad that brought a client to you. Add these labels to your ad in Meta’s Ads Manager. When a client clicks the ad and sends a WhatsApp message, Kommo saves each value in the lead field with the same name. If the field doesn’t exist yet, Kommo creates it. For example, if you add utm_campaign=spring_sale to your ad, Kommo saves **spring_sale** in the lead’s **utm_campaign** field. > [!NOTE] > Note: Each new parameter name creates a new lead field, so a typo like utm_campain instead of utm_campaign will create a separate field. ### Main parameters These parameters help you track the basic details of each campaign: - **utm_source** — the platform the client came from, such as Facebook or Instagram. - **utm_medium** — the type of advertising, such as paid_social. - **utm_campaign** — the campaign name, such as spring_sale. It’s recommended to use these three parameters for each campaign so you can compare results more easily. ### Additional parameters You can add these parameters if you want more detail: - **utm_content** — identifies a specific ad or version, such as video_ad or carousel_1. - **utm_term** — identifies an audience or keyword, such as remarketing. ### Custom parameters You can also create your own parameters to track details specific to your business. Each parameter uses the **key=value** format: the key is the field name, and the value is the information saved in that field. The **utm_ prefix is a standard naming convention, but it isn’t required**. For example: - utm_offer=free_trial — Kommo creates a **utm_offer** field in the lead and saves **free_trial** as its value. - offer=free_trial — Kommo creates an **offer** field in the lead and saves **free_trial** as its value. - region=emea — Kommo creates a **region** field in the lead and saves **emea** as its value. > [!WARNING] > **Tip:** Use the same naming style across your campaigns. For example, always use facebook instead of switching between facebook, Facebook, and fb. ## How to add UTM parameters to your ad Add UTM parameters in **Meta’s Ads Manager → Ad → Tracking → URL parameters**. 1. In Meta’s Ads Manager, open the ad you want to track. 2. Find **Tracking** and open **URL parameters**. 3. Enter the parameters you want to track. Separate each parameter with **&**. For example: utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=spring_sale In this example, the lead’s tracking data will show: - Source: facebook - Medium: cpc - Campaign: spring_sale > [!NOTE] > **Note:** Enter only the parameters. Don’t add a WhatsApp link or a question mark (?). When a client clicks the ad and sends a WhatsApp message, Kommo saves these values in the lead card.
